08, 2013 The Explanation of the Rhetoric Choices The fast development of modern tourism and its relationship with sustainable

conservation in historic villages has always been a hot topic in todays society. We agree that the booming of tourism can promote economic development, but it also leads to some negative aspects at the same time, which really make us worried. In China, tourism development brings a variety of disadvantages to the historic villages. For example, ecological environment is suffering from the serious possibility of destruction (Wang 41), and the traditional culture and custom also sustain damage to a certain extent. If we only pay attention to develop the tourism and ignore these disadvantages, then it will finally become a curse to historic village. The reason for us to write this public argument is to make audience aware that tourism development is a threat to our historic villages, and we want to appeal government to make effective measures to protect historic villages. Our purpose of writing this public argument in presentation format by using PowerPoint is to display this issue more vivid and easy for audience to understand. We hope all the public can pay attention to the problem we mentioned above, especially the government who plays specific roles of manager and planner in a country. Without the governments management and restriction, the tourism developers and tourists will continue their inappropriate behaviors immoderately, which may result in a great calamity to our historic villages. Whats more, we give some advice on how to solve the problem. We think government should stand out and set

Zhang & Liu some pointed policies to protect our historic sites when developing modern tourism. There should be strict punishment for these people who destroy the environment of historic villages intentionally.

Our claim is that there are all kinds of problems related to environment, social and culture because of the development of tourism in historic villages. People and government should keep an eye on these problems and try to find a solution. Firstly, tourists inappropriate behaviors and landscape renovation can easily cause serious destruction to ecological environment in historic villages (Xiong 22). Secondly, tourism development can lead to some inevitable conflicts between government, tourism company, tourists and local people because each of them hold different opinions and want to preserve their own interests (Yang at el. 88). Last but not least, tourism development is threatening local cultural maintenance. Not only tourism development steps into stereotypical development pattern, but also tourists bring some unwanted changes in culture (Hwang at el. 328). We also use some real examples and personal experience to illustrate each of my reasons. We choose government as well as scholars who make relevant researches on this issue to be our public audience. It is known to us all that government is powerful, it has the capability to solve this problem with a high efficiency. Also, it is the responsibility of government to protect our historic villages. We believe we can deal with this problem more easily if we gain the attention and support from government. In addition, scholars are a material group who can propagandize related knowledge and give efficient guidance to individuals. We intend to give the presentation in a conference which government officials, scholars and some other individuals are invited to attend. We think it is suitable for our purpose because this kind of conference is really formal and being focused on. All the people who attend the

after the conference. It is also an efficient way to acquaint the government with the serious plight of historic villages under the circumstance of tourism development and we can persuade it take actions to solve this problem. The limitation of our argument is that our PowerPoint can only been seen by a limited number of people. Because our presentation will be made in a conference where only government officials, scholars and a few of peoples deputies have access to attend, most of the public cannot get a view of it. Although this limitation will weaken the direct influences of our argument, the government and scholars can propagate our claim to the public. People can be conscious the disadvantages of tourism development in historical villages through the scholars academic paper and the governments relative policies. Therefore, we should try to convince our intend audiences of our argument, and hope they can make wider and more effective implications.
