Come join the new South Shore Reading Council! We are open and seeking new members.

Visit our Facebook page at Massachusetts South Shore Reading The purpose of this council is to: 1. 2. 3. 4. Encourage the study of literacy instruction at all educational levels. Study the various factors that influence literacy development. Disseminate information regarding current research, theory and practices related to literacy development. Sponsor conferences and meetings which support and promote professional development of literacy educators.

A $15 yearly membership fee secures you with free entry to our grand opening event and reduced rates for all future events, opportunities to network with other literacy professionals as well as access to a South Shore Council Newsletter. The Council is an affiliate of the Massachusetts Reading Association and International Reading Association. Please join us for our grand re-opening event!

The p.m. session will bring Jerry Pallotta, acclaimed author and local South Shore summer native, wrote his first book which became a #1 best seller in 1985. While speaking in schools teachers told me they were looking for simple nonfiction nature books. It gave me the confidence to write more. My next book, The Icky, Bug Alphabet Book, has sold more than 1 million copies. Jerrys goal has always been to write interesting, fact-filled childrens books. Join us as he shares his books and how they can help us meet the Common Core standards. Cost: Members: Free Nonmembers: $10.00 Please RSVP by January 10 to Southshorereading@gmail.com. In addition, all are welcome to join us for a FREE morning session sponsored by the Makepeace Literacy Leadership Center. 9:00 12:00 Writing Intervention Program presentation w/ Leslie Laud of the HILL for Literacy

The a.m. session will be an overview of the writing intervention program SRSD (Self- Regulated Strategy Development), presented by Leslie Laud, Hill for Literacy and hosted by the Makepeace Literacy Leadership Center in Carver. The program supports students learning to cultivate the necessary self-regulation strategies that expert writers possess. Students learn gradual release methods that support ownership of their writing while addressing the writing genres of the Common Core. SRSD is endorsed by the What Works Clearinghouse as a highly successful research and evidencebased program.
