Trent Devereux Interior Alaska Demographics The interior region of Alaska is separated into four different census areas.

These four areas are the Denali Borough, the Fairbanks North Star Borough, the Southeast Fairbanks Census Area, and the Yukon - Koyukuk Census Area. With a total population of only 1,875, the Denali area has the smallest population of the four groups. Despite these small numbers the area has a total income in the past 12 months, per capita, of $38,804 which is the largest of the four areas. The areas ethnic makeup is around 90% White with small amounts of Alaskan Native, Hispanic and Latino, and some others to fill up the last 10% and the total land area per square miles is 12,751. Secondly there is the Fairbanks North Star borough with a total population of 100,272. That number contains 87% of the Interiors population and 14 percent of Alaskas population even though it has the smallest area of the four census area at only 7,338 square miles. The ethnic makeup is 77.7% White, 5.3% African American, 7.3% Native Alaskan and American Indian, 2.7% Asian, 0.4% Pacific Islander, 6.8% Hispanic and Latino, and 6.4% other. Income per capita in a year is $31,532 which is the second best of the four areas. Next the Southeast Fairbanks Census Area has a population of 7,144. Like the other areas is mainly white at 80.8% but has a higher Alaskan Native population at 11.4%. Per capita in a year is $29,014 and its land in square miles is 24,769. Lastly, there is the Yukon- Koyukuk Census Area with a population of 5,770. The areas ethnic makeup, unlike the other areas is mostly Native Alaskans at 70.9% with the second biggest group being White at 22.8%. Per capita in a year is $19,923 which is the lowest of the four areas. On the other hand though, this areas total size is around 145,505 square miles which is bigger that most states are. In the end the interior region of Alaska ends up with a population of 115,061 people and a land in square miles of 190,362, 33% of all of Alaska. Home to nine different Athabascan tribes, interior Alaska is one of the biggest regions in all of Alaska.
