Once upon a summer time. A hot summer time. The sun was sizzling. The land was dry. Not a drop of rain had fallen to the ground.

All the flowers on the walley were about to die. They hung their heads and looked dry. There was a stream near by. But the flowers had no way of reaching it.

So the flowers begged the cicada. Please bring us some water from the stream or we are going to die!

But the cicade was lazzy bug. And he did not carry water to the flowers. He sat on a tree and went on singing.

Next, the flowers asked the bufferfly to help them. But the bufferfly showed her delicate wings and said, If my wings and said, If my wings touch water they will be ruined. And she flew away.

12

A bird heard the flowers cry. He felt sorry for them. He carried water from the stream in his beak.

14

He dropped some water near the roots of each flower. Enough to keep them from dying. His beak was small so he had to make a trip for each flower.

16

By the time he watered the last flower he was very tiered. He fell on the grass and went right to sleep.

18

When the dipper was a sleep it startedr to rain. The flowers were happy. They had water and were saved from drying up.

20

One of the flowers said, If it had not been for thle birdt we would all be dried up before the rain. It was the bird who really saved us.

22

All the other flowers agreed. Then they decided to protect the bird. So they covered the bird by stretching their petals over him. This way the bird did not get wet and he slept comfortably.

24

Magical things can happen in fairy tales. In this tale the colors o the flowers dropped on to the birds wings. The dipper was a very colorful bird now.

26

The bird woke up. When he flew up with wings stretched the other birds did notk recognise him. They asked, Beautiful, colorful bird who are you?

28

The dipper was surprised to hear them. He flew over the stream and looked in. What a sight! He was a wery colorful, pretty bird now. The bird was very happy. He had a reward, after all, for what he had done.
