Building a Global Community

Page | 4

Introduction
As many college instructors move towards using more cooperative and collaborative learning techniques, post-high students will be required to work with their peers to achieve shared learning goals and complete group tasks and assignments. Connecting with others in the same field or who have similar interests also helps students to expand their network and share knowledge.

As technology and social networking use has become widespread, social media is now a part of everyday life and plays an increasing role in influencing how people interact with each other. Social media can now provide a means to connect with peers virtually. Learning about various tools available to facilitate creating these collaborative communities allows students to be aware of available options and make an informed decision on which to use to apply in their real life context.
