ST. BALDRED OF BASS ROCK The Aberdeen Breviary gives the following information about St.

Baldred:- After the translation of S. Kentigern [Bishop of lasgow! to the so"iety of the angels# in $%&# at the age of one hundred and eighty-three# S. Baldred# who had been his suffragan# be"ame famous in 'audonia. (e betoo) himself to the eremiti" life in remote desert pla"es# and islands of the sea# among whi"h is one termed Bass# where he for a long time dwelt upon the memory of his model S. Kentigern# and above all things meditated on the bitter passion of *hrist# in fasting# and weeping# and wailing. (e also taught the faith in the three paro"hial "hur"hes of Aldhame# Tynynghame# and +restoune# whi"h had been sub,e"ted to him by S. -ungo [Kentigern!. (ere he performed some mira"les of healing# and a ro")# whi"h impeded the navigation# moved beneath him to the shore. .t is still "alled the Tumba or S"apha of S. Baldred. At length# worn out by e/treme old age# he died in the house of the parish priest of Aldhame.0 .t seems that this a""ount "onfuses two saints of the same name# one of whom was a dis"iple of the S"ottish St. Kentigern and died in about 1&2 3-ar"h 14# and the other an Anglo-Sa/on saint of the eighth "entury who lived at Tyningham and later on Bass 5o")# and who removed a dangerous reef between Bass 5o") and the mainland to its present site# where it is )nown as St. Baldred6s 5o").
