Amputees commonly experience something called phantom pain where their nervous system and brain mistakenly interpret that certain physical signals being sent by a lm that is no longer attached to the body. The memories of you sinful past can be like those phantom pains, only its a little trickier because at your conversion you didnt just lose a part of you; you literally died and were raised from the dead. This is how Paul describes what happened to us at conversion: Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; for he who has died is freed from sin. (Romans 6:4-7) Did you catch that friends, I want to make sure you actually go that. According to what Paul as written in the book of Romans, at conversion we have literally died to our sinful past. It was crucified on the cross with him! Do you know what that means? It means that we are a new person. We have been re-born. We start over; we dont just brush off and carry on. No. We have become a new creation. Sin no-longer has a place to grab onto you. You can look at sin and temptation and legally say to it I do not belong to you anymore. You must leave me alone. You are not a sinner. God has made you a saint. So heres the question. How do you really retrain your brain to think and remember in accordance with that new reality? There are a number of truths that we need to meditate on regularly so that the reality of our conversion becomes established in our thinking and manifests in our behavior. We need to invite the Holy Spirit to make our thought life fresh and unveil new layers of this great, mysterious salvation weve received, and to take that revelation beyond mere head knowledge into a deeper level of freedom and power.

Check out these awesome scriptures that discuss the truth that our sinful past no longer exists! Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out(Acts 3:19) The record of our sinful past is blotted out-completely erased-when we repent and are converted. Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more. (Hebrews 10:17) Our sins have been forgotten. The devil keeps record of our past. Yet those records are powerless without our agreement. The devil is the accuser of the brethren, but Jesus is our defender. We make an agreement with the accuser whenever we look at our past apart for the blood of Jesus. When we agree with the devil we empower him. When he is empowered, de devours. On the other hand, agreeing with God empowers us. It frees us from the power of a lie and enables us to live according to the will of God. This empowerment is not independent of God; it is empowerment because of God. When we agree with God we step into the power of truth, the momentum of the Cross. Kris Vallotton The devil remembers our sins. God has forgotten them. When God views a believers history like that, who are we to do otherwise? Kris Vallotton Our sins have been forgotten, erased, blotted out, gone One of my favorite sayings here at Bethel Church is Youre not a sinner saved by grace, youre a saint saved by grace. I like it because it really encompasses what Paul is trying to teach us; that our identity has been changed. Our old and sinful self is gone and we have been made new. We have been given a new life. A fresh start, we get to began again. Like a baby has no history, we have no history.
