A CHINESE WEDDING In the modern days, couples would normally go to the marriage registrar to officially or getting engaged.

However, in the eyes of the parents and the society, they are not deemed as married as they have not gone through the traditional marriage ceremony! They have not announced their marriage before performing the traditional Chinese Marriage customs and holding a wedding banquet! It is a norm for the couple to be officially married for one or two years prior from their wedding ceremony as theres a lot of preparations involved. A typical marriage registration ceremony for the Chinese is a very small or private affair. It is normally held in the marriage registrar office Clans Association and foremost, the parents of the groom will consult the astrologer or fortune teller to choose the auspicious date or the wedding da!. The auspicious marriage date and others important marriage ritual dates are chosen based on the couples "a #hi !date of birth and time". #e$t, the parents of the groom will pay the future%in%law a visit to as& for their daughters hand in marriage. An elderly couple from the grooms side will be the representative for sending the betrothal gifts including the wedding dowry to the brides parents. A Chinese wedding dinner or ban,uet is held at night or during the day. -n the wedding the day, the bridegroom will arrive at the brides house. The groom and the $heng tai% !groom buddies" will have to ta&e a test prepared by the bridesmaids to enter the house and meet the bride. The groom will then meet and &iss the bride. The couple will present themselves

in the wedding tea ceremon!, &eng Cha ') in which they present tea to their parents to receive their blessing.
