GAUGE

12 sts and 16 rows = 4"/10 cm over St st using size 10 (6.5mm) needles and 2 strands of yarn held tog. TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.
BACK

before beginning to knit. Work armhole shaping at side edge as for back, AT SAME TIME, inc 1 st at front edge (working inc sts into garter st) on next row, then every other row 9 times more, AT SAME TIME, work 1 more st at front edge in garter st (therefore 1 fewer st in St st) inside of garter st 45" on next row, then every 8th row 8 times more, AT SAME TIME, when same length as back to shoulder, shape shoulder at side edge as for back18 sts. Work even on these 18 sts for 3"/7.5cm. Place sts on a holder.

Armhole shaping

Work to correspond to left front, reversing all shaping and placement of garter st band and collar.
