Implosion
Parts of Europe are emptying. Childbirth has dropped to far below the level needed to maintain the population. If Italy gets stuck with current fertility rates, it will lose 86% of its native population by the end of the century, and Germany will lose 83%. Meanwhile in parts of Eastern Europe death rates are rising, bringing fears for the demographic future of the entire continent. Fred Pearce, Peoplequake, 2011
