Social Studies Essay The Civil War Essay Why was the Civil War inevitable?

America has experienced a lot of brutal fights in the past hundreds of years, but the most bloodiest and menacing one of all was the American Civil War. What caused all this chaos was an argument between people who supported slavery and those who were abolitionists of slavery. ortherns and !outherners often debated on who would get what as territory, but the debates never ended well, and so states seceded. The Civil War was inevitable because of "incoln#s election, the orth having problems with the !outh#s way of life, and the $ansas% ebras&a Act. Although "incoln wasn#t trying to end slavery, he still felt it was wrong. All he wanted to do was to reunite the country, but the !outherners didn#t understand him and thought he had intentions to end slavery, so they couldn#t stand to have him around as president. 'They believed that "incoln#s election meant abolition and rebellion by those enslaved( )pg.*+,-. When the southerners heard about "incoln#s victory in the election, it meant to them that slavery would disappear forever because of him, and that would mean all slaves would be free. The southerners became really upset and they couldn#t ta&e it anymore, so they seceded from the country. The orth had problems with the !outh#s way of life and their intentions with slavery. The !outh was based solely on slavery and agriculture while the orth was had an industrial way of life. !outherners needed slavery so that they could &eep the growth of their farms and plantations well, and have money to pay for more for more land, taxes, and even more slaves. ortherners on the other hand, didn#t really need slaves since they depended on factories and mills to benefit their economy, besides, the ortherners didn#t really appreciate the !outh#s way of life. At one point, the southerners found out that the orth was trying get rid of their way of life. 'While allowing !outhern states to maintain slavery where it already existed, ortherners did not want it extended to the territories( )pg. *.*-. ortherners opposed slavery feeling that it was wrong. They couldn#t allow slavery to expand, it was horrible for them imagine a country filled mostly with slavery. The $ansas% ebras&a Act was the most significant act leading to the Civil War. This act was a bill that let the territories $ansas and ebras&a become states. !o one thing had to be determined, whether those territories should be a free or slave state. !teven /ouglas felt the fate of the territories would be decided by popular sovereignty )when the people vote-. 'The $ansas% ebras&a Act was critici0ed. The repeal of the 1issouri Compromise was denounced in the orth.( )2g. *+3-. The $ansas ebras&a Act ended the political truce over slavery and chaos started occurring. ortherners became angered since the 45% 46 line )which didn#t allow slavery in places that were above the line- was destroyed, and that meant slavery would exceed into the north. The people couldn#t allow that to happen, so they argued with the !outh and debated on

whether $ansas should be free or enslaved, then a very brutal fight with bloody struggles called '7leeding $ansas( bro&e out. Even though there were a small amount of deaths, tensions were at their highest at the time of the fight. The most three important factors that caused the Civil War was "incoln#s election, economic differences, and ma8or events. The Civil War was an enormous era in American history. Thousands of people were &illed and that struc& the hearts of families. Wars li&e these can affect a lot of people, and they#re all worth a race to freedom. As America struggles with political issues, we can only hope and pray that our country never gets torn apart again.
