In order to be successful in a work place you need to know all about that career and what it has to offer I wrote a paper on a specific career and I hope it helps. As a mechanical engineer we have specific responsibilities which make this career exceptional. In this career the average responsibilities are product design, development, testing, technical operations, or technical services and sales. People go to mechanical engineering for different reasons for example if your also a artist and you like drawing cars your favorite responsibility would most likely want to do product design. I am going into engineering because I like the technical aspect of making and developing mechanical products. Mechanical engineers dont use any specific type of tools only because some people may be a different type mechanical engineer and the only tool they may use is a pen! If I could get my dream career I would want to fix machines such as cars and figure how to make it better (Mechanical Description). Some people might want this job as well as I do but its not for everybody. If you want to be an engineer in general you will have to have good communication skills and be able to work with co-workers more often than other careers. I think this specific career fits my personality because I like working in teams and I also like engineering. I also like this career because to me its challenging and you actually help people so in other words its fun. Like I said this career isnt for everybody if you want to challenge your brain and have fun with it you should consider this career in the future (Mechanical Description). If you want mechanical engineering to be your career you need to start in high school. Taking extra math and science is almost required and a college degree is the way to get this career if you think trig is too hard then too bad, engineers use all math methods. Most employers

will hire if you have at least an associates degree but if you want to be more successful you will consider at least a bachelors. Colleges and universities that have well-regarded programs in mechanical engineering are University of Purdue, University of Cincinnati, and University of California- Berkley. These colleges require high test scores, credit, and G.P.A to get admitted in there programs. In order to get in to the University of Cincinnati your ACT score has to be higher than a 22 and for the SAT Critical Reading has at least a 510, Math at least a 520, Writing 480. As an incoming freshman you have to at least be in the top half of your graduating class and have done 4 years of English, 2 years of Foreign Language, 3 years of Math, 2 years of Science, 2 years of S.S, and 2 years of Academics Electives. To get in the University of Purdue ACT has to be at least a 24 and for SAT Critical Reading at least 510, Math at least 550, Writing 510. You must be in top half of graduating class and have done 4 years English class, 2 years of Foreign Language, 4 years of Math, 3 years of Science, 3 years of Science-Lab, 3 years of S.S. For the University California ACT you need at least a 27 and for SAT Critical Reading at least 590, Math at least a 630, and for Writing at least a 620. You must be in the top half or above to be able to get in and 4 years of English, 2 years of a Foreign Language with one more recommended year, 2 years of History, 3 years of Math with one more recommended year, 2 years of Science with one more recommended year, 2 years of Science Lab with one more recommended year, and 1 year of both Visual/Performing Arts and Academic Electives. Since I dont meet any of these requirements I plan on taking a specialty class to improve my test scores and I will have all credit requirements. To get the training you need many colleges offer engineer training such as University of Cincinnati, and Ohio State University and some colleges that offer this training are not only in Ohio, Auburn University and California Institute of Technology also offer. The tuition fees for this career can range from 1,000 dollars to 30,000

!"##$%&'(#$)(%*&& dollars but you can always get scholarship to pay your way to get the required training. There are a lot of scholarships to help you get through college such as: National Society of Black

Engineers and HENAAC, Inc. When considering to get in the mechanical engineering field these are all the aspects to think about before you make a decision it isnt easy (mtu.edu). Being an engineer your general work hours is usually 40 hours a week and that could be as little as 8 hours every business day but always remember to be the best you got to have more practice so usually you would see an engineer take their work with the home. For a mechanical engineer your work place come be a series of things like if you work design you can work in an office but if work more on the technical aspect of the product you can work in your own garage (if you have enough space). If you are on a higher level of your career traveling may be required and as everyone knows in order to make more products you need money and to get money you need sell your previous products and somebody has to sell those products. After all the hours and work put into your career you may become tired or stressed especially if you have a deadline to meet but as long as you like what youre doing you can always overcome that stress. The only thing I can say I probably not like about the work setting is the dangers that come with working with new and unpredictable actions the products can cause (Mechanical Description). After you get the training and education needed for this career you might want to know how much you would make. The average U.S citizen makes about 60,474 with just a simple 2-4 year college experience. After a while on the job and you start to gain experience you become what is called a senior mechanical engineer and as a senior you get wages of 60,000 to 110,00! Thats not all mechanical engineering can offer the benefits of being in this career include paid holidays, insurance, and retirement plans. With all these benefits anybody could live happily and comfortably and still get a little extra as well (PayScale).

Now you may think this is a dream job and everybody might want the same one you want, but its good news its a demand of engineers and a good employment outlook so all the engineer jobs will never go away. Common companies I would consider would be General Electric Energy and The Boeing Company only because they pay more and are larger companies so it wont restrict your location. If youre still not sure about this career there are other careers that relate such as electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, and computer engineering (Mechanical Engineering-BS). As you can see in this I think this career would be ideal for me to do only because I can enjoy what I do and it pays well, and I also feel I can be successful and this career. With this career I can still be social and it meets my education standards, if I could get this career I wouldnt have to change my routine up and if I want to be at family activities I can do that. I think this career will also be ideal for me because I loved the mechanical engineering projects we did in school like the trebuchet project. We had to use a lot of teamwork, brainstorming, and editing to get it where we wanted. So this all you need to know to become successful in this career and I hope this can help anybody with the questions I had before I wrote this paper.
