What is the difference between a T4 and T6 aluminum heat treatment procedure?

There is a common bond with the two procedures of T4 and T6. The bond is, that both procedures require a solutionize treatment. The appropriate temperatur e for the solutionize treatment will be dependent on the aluminum alloy being trea ted. Once the solutionize treatment has been completed, then the final procedure can begin. A T4 procedure is to solution treat and follow with a natural ageing procedure to a substantially stable condition. Generally (but not in all cases), the age proced ure cycle time is between 96 hours to 100 hours. The T6 procedure is solution treat and follow with an artificial age procedure. The artifical age temperature (also kn own as precipitation treatment) will be determined by the alloy being treated and b oth the physical and metallurgical properties required
