WEEK 2 ASSIGNMENT JIT

I included the following five questions in my survey presented to the class based on my previous weeks discussion. 1. What type of online tools do you use most often at work and at leisure? 2. Have you ever created or followed step-by-step guides for Microsoft Office software? If so, what was it for? 3. Have you ever created or followed online multimedia instructions for troubleshooting computer or other hardware issues? If so, what was it? 4. Have you ever created or followed 'how-to' documents specific to your organization's tailored software or programs? If so, what was it? 5. What type of online learning method do you prefer? Why? A summary of the eleven responses to my survey questions is listed below. 1. What type of online tools do you use most often at work and at leisure? The majority of the responses to this question included e mail, Google, YouTube and a variety of social media tools. 2. Have you ever created or followed step-by-step guides for Microsoft Office software? If so, what was it for? The responses were split including five answering none and the remaining students specified Microsoft Office Power Point. Half of the six respondents had created guides while the remaining stated they had merely followed these types of guides. 3. Have you ever created or followed online multimedia instructions for troubleshooting computer or other hardware issues? If so, what was it? Three of the survey respondents answered they have not ever created or used online multimedia instructions. Most of the remaining group listed following troubleshooting instructions on YouTube for virus and password issues. Two of the respondents had both created and followed online multimedia instructions. 4. Have you ever created or followed 'how-to' documents specific to your organization's tailored software or programs? If so, what was it? Two respondents stated they had never created or followed these types of documents. Half of the respondents had created some type of document in Microsoft Word and the remaining respondents had at least followed the instructions from a howto document. 5. What type of online learning method do you prefer? Why? Ten of the survey respondents listed multimedia as their preference with a mixture of text and sound or text and graphics. One only listed text as their preference.

WEEK 2 ASSIGNMENT JIT

I was a bit surprised to learn approximately half of the respondents had never either followed or created instructions for Microsoft Office products. I believe the reason behind these findings could arise from either Mac users or the lack of power users for this type of software. Or perhaps, some users are not as inquisitive as me in learning everything there is to know about the software they use. Based on the results from my Google Docs survey, the JIT solutions most promising would include the Multimedia principle. Dependent upon the skill level of user and the topic presented, I believe my survey respondent base of learners could benefit by creating multimedia presentations. The instructor should keep in mind if the subject matter is new to the learners, than text and graphics should be used (Clark & Mayer, 2011). However, if the learners are acquainted with the subject matter, than only using graphics and audio will suffice (2011).
