Sociologist...

Why do I want to pursue this career?


I want to pursue my career as a social worker because I enjoy helping others and sharing advice with people that can help them get their lives together to where they want them to be !!! I would also be helping others as well as myself. Another reason is because I was inspired by one of my aunts. I would also be increasing the peace and changings some peoples lives for the better.

What does sociologist do?

Sociologist are people that study and analyze the groups and institutions that people form, as well as the social behavior of the people who belong to those groups. By studying the groups, they are able to develop theories that explain human social behavior. Sociologist also change peoples lives!!

Years of Study Required...


Associate Degree- About two years or four semesters. Many students select the associate degree route to jumpstart their career or gain authentic experience in academia before tackling a four-year degree program. Bachelors Degree- About four to five years to complete. This degree prepares students for graduate school opportunities or employment in various professional environments including education, social services and government. Masters Degree- About two to three more years after graduating. A graduate degree is the prerequisite for careers as community college faculty as well as college or university instructors. Ph.D. degree/ Terminal will be six to eight years .The Ph.D. prepares students to teach at the university level.

University of Louisiana Lafayette Entrance Requirements.


Application Fee. There is a $25.00 non-refundable application fee. Official ACT or SAT Scores. If the student does not have scores on file at UL Lafayette, the student must request official ACT/SAT scores from: ACT or SAT or from his/her high school or provide a copy of his/her original scores to the Admissions Office. Immunization Form. It is mandatory that all new students show proof of immunization for measles, mumps, rubella, tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis (whooping cough), and meningococcal meningitis. Selective Service Registration. Male students who are 18 years or older are required to show proof of selective service registration.

High School Transcript*. First-time freshmen applicants may submit a sixth or seventh semester transcript for initial admission and scholarship consideration. A final transcript showing graduation date and grade point average must be received prior to enrollment.

Typically students entering the job market with a BA in sociology can expect to earn approximately $35,000 annually. A masters degree can raise that estimated salary by $43,731 a year, or higher. Social scientists and other related workers earn a median wage of $67,090 per year. The median salary of urban planners is $53,450 annually. All other sociologist occupations earn a median annual wage of $33,840. $$$
