This taught me to taAe a place of leadership and responsi"ility early on in life. I now em"race responsi"ility as a gift5 a privilege5 and also an opportunity to earn merit and progress to more responsi"ilities. @hat had started as a natural position formed my passions5 interests and eventually my e1tra curricular activities and my future career. I have always "een a teacher. I love helping people learn how to do something they considered impossi"le. This passion is evident my e1tra curricular activities and my employment. $y sophomore year of high school the +irector of +ance at 6ancaster School of ;allet offered me an opportunity to apprentice one of her senior instructors. Through this apprenticeship I learned how to run a class5 form a lesson plan5 and teach the art of "allet to children. I am currently in my si1th year of teaching "allet and have classes of students 9 years old to adults. I have learned so much a"out the human "ody5 childrenBs learning5 and "allet itself through this once in a lifetime opportunity. It also helped develop leadership sAills5 creative pro"lem solving5 and worA ethic5 while e1panding my passion for teaching children. It has opened my eyes to new teaching techniques5 children of many different "acAgrounds5 family situations5 physical and intellectual disa"ilities and how to integrate those children into a regular class. This position solidified my passion for teaching and encouraged me to pursue a career in early childhood education and special education. In my studies and e1perience5 I have learned that every child is unique in their strengths and weaAnesses and every child has a diverse "acAground. It is not right for a teacher to teach content using a select amount of strategies that only cater to a few students in their class. I want to teach to individual students and provide support to students in a way that is accessi"le to them. !l"ert &instein said5 C&very"ody is a

genius. ;ut if you %udge a fish "y itBs a"ility to clim" a tree it will spend its whole life thinAing itBs stupid.D I donBt want to let my students go through life thinAing that they are less than they are "ecause I failed to recogni7e their individual needs. I aspire to encourage every one of my students to "e the "est person they can "e5 to try their "est5 and to recogni7e that they are individuals with unique strengths and weaAnesses5 to acAnowledge and cele"rate their strengths5 and never to give up "ecause of their weaAnesses. The !urora 'rimary school includes this statement: E&ach child is treated as an individual with his#hers own personal attri"utes and pro"lems.E I would liAe to complete my student teaching at the !urora 'rimary School as a way to "etter learn how to engage and teach students in a culture that is much different from the one that I have e1perienced. It is an opportunity to step out of my comfort 7one and learn from other education systems5 teachers5 national requirements5 and students with diverse needs and families. Through my student teaching5 I will e1perience what it is liAe to differentiate instruction for a class of students with diverse needs. I will learn how to put students needs "efore my personal opinions and "e fle1i"le in a new culture. I will learn how to create common e1periences and find common ground in a different culture5 and how to adapt to the needs of different schools.
Note: The completion of student teaching under this program will not guarantee eligi"ility for certification in any state. &ach state has specific requirements for teachers.
