Term 2 Year 6
Welcome back to Year 6. This booklet aims to provide an indication of the areas of the curriculum that it is expected the children in Year 6 will be studying this term.

We will begin the term by exploring some of /hakespeare3s well known plays and will study the form and structure of play scripts. We will review the features of newspapers and will use these to write our own reports about special events. We will use our )iteracy lessons to present some of the information we learn about the A tecs, producing leaflets, reports and explanations for aspects of A tec life. Towards the end of the term we will start revising reading comprehension techniDues and will apply these when answering Duestions about text. We will also be revising word and sentence structure through our spelling rules and grammar and punctuation activities.

!n :ath3s we will focus on application of knowledge and make links between the different elements. We will spend some time reviewing and consolidating written methods for the four operations, with a particular focus on multiplication and division methods. We will look at reflection, rotation and translation of *d shapes and spend some time solving problems involving 9d shapes. Time and time tables will be reviewed and we will begin to work on ratio proportions and probability.

Science
This term the children will study electricity and circuits. They will review the symbols for different components, different types of circuits and when they might be used, materials that conduct and ways of insulating. We will then use investigations to revise the different forcesI gravity, air resistance, friction and up thrust. We will also investigate how light travels, how we see obGects and how shadows are formed and change.

This term we will be studying the A tec3s and will look at where they fit in to a historical context. We will learn about the rise and fall of the civilisation, reasons for settlement and explore different aspects of their lifestyle and beliefs. The children will use drama and art activities to explore and demonstrate this further. I$C$T$ !#T will complement many areas of the curriculum this term. We will use it for researching our A tec topic, we will use it to create trailers for /hakespeare plays and will make our own revision games for some of our /cience topics.

Physical Education Invasion GamesC2 #hildren will develop skilful attacking and team play in &ockey and Tag <ugby. They will discuss strategies on how to work well as a team when attacking, and explore a range of ways to defend. 8ven2sided mini2versions of &ockey and Tag <ugby will be played and children will be expected to evaluate their own performance as well as their opponents@. )earning and keeping the rules are also part of this scheme of work. S immin!C2 children will have the opportunity to increase their confidence in a swimming pool, become fully aware of safety measures and how important they are and improve survival skills in the water. They will also improve their techniDues in different strokes, play games that focus on swimming more fluently and meet challenges like breathing while swimming. PSHE We will be having lots of opportunity this term to discuss social and moral dilemmas during our circle time discussions and identify ways of solving them. We will talk about our strengths and areas for development and will then look at our aspirations for the future and how these will be achieved. Portu!uese ;uring term two, Year 6 61) '6ortuguese as a 1oreign )anguage( children will be involved in three different )anguage EnitsF :eans of #ommunication, ?ewspaper and -ra ilian 6opular :usic. The main obGective throughout the units is to develop children@s vocabulary, making them feel confident about the 6ortuguese )anguage, and improve social language skills in interactive and fun activities. !n order to develop these, children will be involved in speaking, listening, reading and writing exercises. This term Year /ix will develop their ability to compose a song with an awareness of the relationship between lyrics and melody. They will also learn more about different musical styles, developing their ability to perform rhythmic patterns with confidence and a strong sense of pulse.
