Brown Paper Bag Speech Assignment

Prepare to give a paper bag speech 1. You will need a paper bag (Size: individual lunch bag). Begin by thinking of things you value in life. It can be anything. Then think of what you have that might symbolize these and narrow it down to three things you value. 2. Decorate your brown bag with your name, and words and drawings that represent you. 3. At home: Collect three school appropriate items that you can use as props (symbols) to tell a little about yourself. Suggestions: photograph, trophy, momento, hobby related item, or collectable. 4. Think about what each item reveals about your character, personality, or narrative. Jot a few sentences down about what others could learn about you from the item. 5. Place your items in the brown bag, and bring the bag and a written or typed copy of the speech to school. 6. When it is your turn to speak, go to the front of the room and present with confidence, knowing that you have practiced what you will be saying. Your speech does not need to follow the outline exactly, but should be written on the board on on a iece of paper at the podium for students to follow. Proficient The written speech may have up to ten errors in mechanics, spelling, punctuation, and grammar. The student has rehearsed the speech a limited number of times as evidenced by the delivery of the speech. Items may only reveal a very shallow and superficial knowledge of the student. All directions were followed. Emerging The written speech will have over ten errors in mechanics, spelling, punctuation, and grammar. The delivery of the speech indicates that it was not rehearsed. Items were haphazardly selected, without any thought to what they reveal. All directions were followed.
