Through his photographs, Peter Lindbergh aims to communicate danger and rebellion.

The idea of this woman smoking portrays her character as a dangerous, slightly daring seductress. Her eyes are key in this image as they are the brightest feature and therefore draw you in. For a male audience, the woman comes across as a femme fatale, enticing men. On the other hand, for a female audience, she is contrastingly portrayed as a competitive figure, competing against other women. This photo was taken rather close up, therefore we can only see that her hair has been in a 1920s manner, and her clothes are dark and seductive. Also, the use of dark, chiaroscuro lighting emphasises the dangerous tone to the image, and a theme of seduction The lighting also emphasises the mixture of horizontal and vertical lines, to show diversity and a mixture of emotions.
