Two tanks have transfer functions relating outflow to inflow as:

f0 G1 = F1 / F0 = 1 / (s+1)

f1

G2 = F2 / F1 = 2 / (s+2)

f2

A PID controller with an integral time of 0.5 minutes and a derivative time of 0.25 minutes is to be used to control f2 by manipulating f0 . (i) draw the associated Root Locus plot. (DO NOT evaluate breakaway points or angles of departure/approach) (ii) what is the damping ratio at the highest controller gain ? (iii) Use the angle criterion and the magnitude criterion to find a suitable controller gain which will give a closed loop damping ratio of 1/ 5 . (only perform iterative calculations ONCE)
