Aim
To study the instantaneous reaction by
micellar catalysis
Reaction
Theory
When the concentration of a surfactant in a
solution exceeds a certain limit known as
critical micelle concentration CC, surfactant
molecules form micelles
Due to small size, micelles provide high
interfacial area, enable solubilization of
organic reactant in ionic solvent (water).
CTAB is used as a catalyst
Equations
-V d[HCl]/dt = kL[HCl] (DDEA / DHCl) 1/2 * A
Solving it, we get
ln ([[HCl]i /[HCl]) = (kLA/V) (DDEA / DHCl) 1/2 t
Calibration
A standard plot is made of DEA-HCl of the
following concentrations:

Conclusion
Slope in absence of CTAB = 0.0006
Slope in presence of CTAB = 0.0018
(enhancement factor) = slope with CTAB
/Slope without CTAB= 0.0018/0.0006 = 3
