Grade 4 Classroom Newsletter

Love is in the air
All students are welcome to bring Valentines Day cards for their classmates on the 14th. We will spend the last 15 minutes of the day handing these out.

Literacy Place
In Literacy we have been focusing on the writing traits of Ideas and Conventions. Students are practicing the rules of these traits and given time each day to write to apply what they are learning. When we focus on our ideas, we look at the meaning and development of the message. A strong piece of writing is clear, focused and interesting. It holds the readers attention.

Lunch Box News:

It is that time of year when students are starting to tire of the same expected lunch items. I notice many things going to waste. Please have a discussion withyour child or better yet, include them in the packing of their lunch!

Math Corner
Students are doing really well in our unit of multiplication and division. They should be able to use the terms factor and product in describing their number sentences. They should also be able to represent using arrays, pictures, and numbers. Nightly practice of multiplication and division facts are essential. Students are required to know their basic facts up to 9x9 as well as the related division number sentence with automaticity.

Your child has access to a wonderful world of books through www.raz-kids.com because your school has subscribed to the online library of exciting reading materials. Raz-Kids helps students improve their reading skills as they listen to a book read for modeled fluency.

Social Studies
Explorer/Inventor projects are due today. I am looking forward to reading all of the written reports as well as listening to the various types of presentations. The students seem very excited to share with their peers all they have learned!! Before the March Break, we hope to complete this second unit in Exploration The Nature Of Exploration as well as the third unit Exploring Our World. Our class website will be updated to include special resources for this material under the Social Studies tab!
