Partial Fraction Expansion (PFE)

1st Revision 2007 Taufik

Given F(s) = N(s)/D(s) If the order of N(s) < the order of D(s), then use Partial Fraction Expansion (PFE) If the order of N(s) >= the order of D(s), then use Long Division Examples

Transfer Function of LINEAR System

1st Revision 2007 Taufik

Defined as the ratio of the Laplace Transform of the OUTPUT variable to the Laplace Transform of the INPUT variable Transfer Function: Allows SEPARATION of the Input, System, and Output into 3 separate and distinct parts (Unlike the Diff. Eqtns.) Allows us to ALGEBRAICALLY COMBINE mathematical representation of subsystems to yield a total system representation Consider a general n-th order, Linear, time-invariant Diff. Equation, where y(t) is Output and r(t) is Input (call this Equation A)
