Automated Note Search Tool

1. Introduction
ANST is an application that will help SAP customers to find SAP Notes in order to solve a specific issue and works based on the issue replication at the customer system. When an issue is reproduced on the customers system, the list of application components that are involved is displayed and a note search is performed on the application component where the problem exists. A list of correction notes that could solve the issue is displayed.

1.1 Purpose
This guide describes how one can use Automated Note Search Tool to search for SAP correction notes and to implement these notes to solve a specific problem.

1.2 Target Audience

This guide provides assistance to customers to search for SAP Notes that solve a specific problem.

2. Using Automated Note search Tool

2.1 Use
The Automated Note Search Tool allows you to search for correction notes from SAP and implement these notes to solve a problem.

2.2 Prerequisites
A problem/ bug in the SAP standard code for which a correction note could exist.

2.3 Procedure
1. Log on to the system and call transaction ANST_SEARCH_TOOL. 2. On the screen, specify if the problem that occurred in a transaction or a program and provide the necessary transaction code or program name respectively. Example: for transaction OASV 3. In the Trace description field provide a short description to the trace that you are about to create and Click or (F8) to start the Automated Note Search Tool. 4. Now, replicate the issue and press enter. 5. Click or (F3) to go back.

6. Now, the control is transferred again to the Note Search Tool. A list of the application components involved in the execution will be displayed. Select the component or components that could contain the problem Click icon. The tool will now start searching for relevant Notes.

Note: It is recommended that you be specific when selecting the components, else the first note search could display too many notes and make it difficult to identify the relevant correction note that could solve the problem. To optimize the search result: - You can view the objects that were found in the trace for each subcomponent and search for correction notes for each object. - You can navigate / edit the object by double clicking on it.

Note: The working of this tool is based on the trace of the process replicated. After clicking (back) button , a list of application components is shown.Later, a note search looking for notes that have these objects in their correction instructions is done. Therefore, try to replicate the issue using the least number of steps possible. Otherwise, the performance might be endangered as the trace could get unnecessary objects and as a result notes that are irrelevant for the issue will be displayed. 3

2.4 Result
The list of notes that could be related to the issue, and not yet implemented on the system is displayed. In the column Note Number, you can click on any of the note numbers to read the note in detail. After implementing the corresponding note that solves the issue, the error will disappear and the corresponding note will not be displayed in the next Note Search.

3. Additional features of ANST

3.1 Integration with the Note Assistant (SNOTE)
Once the trace has been created and the lists of relevant notes that are likely to solve the problem are displayed, you can implement any of these notes on your system by just double clicking on it in the Download note column. This will trigger a pop-up that requests you to confirm the action. If you confirm the download, the tool will automatically call the note assistant (transaction SNOTE) and download the note leaving it ready for the implementation.

3.2 Customer code identification

It is not always necessary that the problem is in the standard code. The error could also possibly exist in the customer code due to badi implementation, user exits, field exits or repaired standard code. You can use ANST tool to identify errors in the customer code. To do so, Click on the button:

A list of objects from the customer code is displayed. Now, double click on the row corresponding to the object to display / edit.

3.3 Customizing tables

If no correction notes are available for a specific problem, the issue could have possibly been due to customization. The ANST allows you to view the list of customizing tables. To do so, click on the button

Now, the customizing tables grouped by application component that are involved in the process are displayed in a tree list.

A list of traces that created and their description are displayed.
