Skills
Leadership and Communication: I served as the president of the Lake and Peninsula Education Association for 5 years. I have been asked to present at district wide in-services on the following topics: Descriptive Writing Strategies Co-Presenter (March 2008), EnVision Math Curriculum Training (August 2009 & August 2010), Using Technology in the EnVision Math Classroom (October 2010), Personal Education Plans for Elementary Classrooms (October 2011 & October 2012). Differentiated Instruction: Ive spent many years in a multi-level classroom tailoring my teaching to meet the needs of individual students. I am adept at modifying lessons and expectations for a variety of levels represented within a group. Standards Based Education: I am a strong believer in mastery learning based on the specific content and skills outlined by common core, state, and district standards. I frequently reference standards to communicate lesson objectives to the students during class. Student Engagement: Student choice and teacher enthusiasm for the subject are critical elements for engaging students in their education. I believe in guiding students through the problem solving and decision-making processes to create personal education plans. Organization and Planning: I believe that we need to make the most efficient use possible of the limited time we have in each students life. Being prepared and explicitly defining the purpose behind each lesson ensures that time in the classroom is well spent.
