Historians study and document social probems

In some cases social sciences complement and assist in planning for an upcoming technology. Social notions can largely dictate whether or not a future technology will be successfully adopted. Examples can be found of lukewarm responses by society to potentially life-changing technologies like biotechnology. In this particular case the general public was apprehensive about embracing biotechnology due to supposed health concerns related to genetically modified biomaterials. Social scientists can help to plan for future technologies like nanotechnology by studying and predicting public notions, trends and expectations. This also helps in regulation of technologies as per social guidelines. There are social problems which are not related to economic development or comfortable living. Social injustices, clashes between cultures and struggles for cultural identity in a multicultural society are some areas in which technology has proven to be of no avail. In-depth studies of regional history and multiple cultures are frequently necessary to suggest and implement effective long-term solutions to sectarian or culture-wide hostilities. Even in times of peace, social scientists and activists can actively participate in eradication of social malpractices like subjugation of women or of minority communities. Technology can only indirectly help such affected people by facilitating communication, accessibility or improving healthcare. In conclusion, the goals of human life encompasses much more than what technology can provide. Social scientists or historians can enable us to reach nobler objectives of social cohesion, structure and civilization with their insights.
