A Vatican visit without observing the timeless frescoes and sculptures of Michelangelo and Leonardo sages of the modern

n art renaissance is three words: a grandiose failure. Spiritual refinement in this day and age is possible. In the Vatican City, Rome. Its probable. I absorbed the pulsating energy emanating out of the land of saints. The imagery of the paintings and marble statues bearing religious symbolism and iconography by Michelangelo complimented my surrounds. Most noteworthy, was the bronze one of its kind statue of Saint Peter that withstood the turbulent times of the Roman Empires fall. Unlike the Colossus of Nero; there no longer is a trace of which to be found. The discarding of the latter (assumedly melted to construct temple gates) led to the naming of the Coliseum. At the Sistine Chapel no photos were allowed, cardinal rule. Breathing was evidently prohibited I didnt mind the scenery took my breath and danced with my enchantment spinning me over to St Peters Basilica. Thereafter I laid my eyes upon most sacred crucifix in all of Rome, the "Crux Vaticana". A gilt adorned with rare jewels that in fact has shards of the very cross used to crucify Jesus. It was given by Emperor Justin II to the Vatican as a gift to honour it as the "City of Martyrs". A tribute to the many Catholic Christians killed by Roman military men during the Catholic and Protestant conflict. I managed to acquire myself a priceless 24 carat gold Catholic Cross as a more than worthy souvenir. The revelation that the Popes noble guards protect him free of charge is one of many unique features this historic city has on offer. Simply walking through such a hallowed place, gazing at Michelangelos Pieta, being humbled by the weight of its storied heritage; I can only remark that: renaissance is a refinement by which the mortal spirit must come undone to reform the wandering heart-soul. See it. Know awesome. The true meaning.
