Essential Question(s): How do we identify poetic devices? What language do we use to describe them? How do these devices come together to create something different than prose? Other considerations (modifications, accommodations, acceleration, etc.): Students who require it will receive extended deadlines for writing assignments and/or shortened reading.

Connections (prior learning/prior knowledge): Students will use analysis skills gained in the study of prose and expand them to include the analysis of poetry, both in a single piece and in comparison of two different pieces. Students will improve their poetry-related vocabulary through in-depth study and reflection on terms that show up consistently on the AP exam. Alfred Prufrock, which they will use to identify poetic devices and be ready to discuss for Socratic dialogue of Friday. TUESDAY Learning TargetStudents will improve their poetry-related vocabulary through in-depth study and reflection on terms that show up consistently on the AP exam. They will show their understanding of the terms through Vocabulary Boxes that will ask them to define, illustrate and use examples of devices in context. Assignment(s) Due-

WEDNESDAY Learning TargetStudent will test their mastery of poetry vocabulary. Student will be asked apply their new knowledge of poetic devices by identifying 10 poetic devices used within Prufrock and the purpose they serve.

THURSDAY Learning TargetStudents will improve their essay writing skills and ability to compare poetry of two different eras. They will show their learning through an FRQ time based essay prompt. FRIDAY Learning TargetStudents will improve their skills in speaking and listening. They will show their learning through Socratic dialogue.
