emergence being the working out of a developmental approach which sees individual and groups as already developing and

thus we as facilitators are intervening at a point in its development OUR DEFINITION OF EMERGENCE: The traditional approach to development was to enter a community to fix peoples lives. Emergence means getting out of that destructive mindset, and instead thinking of development as a way to get people in a community together to make change happen for themselves, in order to meet the goals they have set for themselves.

Each activity should address one or more of these bullet points Facilitative leaders create a learning organization by consciously challenging the organizations paradigms/mindsets enable others to act provide a conscious role model encourage the heart What we will explore? The role of facilitation in group organisational processes The context of development and social process what is our struggle and why are we drawn to emergent approaches

Theoretical perspectives to emergent thinking and concepts developed out of emergent social approaches The conditions for facilitating emergence in organisations Developing and co-creating effective meta-skills in working with an emergent approach Group theory, the role of groups, group leaders and the role of leadership in groups The emerging organisation elements of emergent organisations Theories of change and how this relates to working with emergent change

Methods and approaches? Observation and reading organisations and social processes Making meaning, interpreting, analyses Synthesising Using questions to go deeper Using listening, conversation, dialogue, storytelling Working creatively through poetry, art, movement, eurhythmy, clay work Personal development exercises Mini-facilitation practice sessions Facilitation tools and aids in working with emergence

Activity ideas: -Food disparity activity -Privilege power activity (cards on backs) -Reflection, personal philosophy-- Create a Deliverable: Creating a list of personal guidelines for their own development facilitation philosophy -One-on-One discussions: Talk about your experience in development -PRA: Assets and Resource Mapping for a hypothetical community -Learning Circle: What did you get from the day? -Appreciations! -Thank you from Facilitators, allow time for mingling and networking
