Teacher Evaluation 3-Step Process

As part ofionrresponsibilities we are required to observe teachers. This will be a multistep process we will go through with each of you. We are going to use the Charlotte Danielson Framework for Teaching Self-Assessment model. This model emphasizes teacher input. The teachers assume an active role in the evaluation process. There are three steps we go through in the observation process - they are below. Step 1 - Pre-Observation Meeting We will meet for about 10-15 minutes to discuss questions you may have. We will go through the pre-observation questions that we will provide for you. These will be given to you the week before the meeting. Using the Framework for Teaching Self Assessment, you will choose DOMAIN A: Instruction or DOMAIN B: Enhancing Learning Environment as a focus for your lesson. There may be some circumstances where the administration will choose your domain. It is necessary for you to think of your lesson plan and how the domain that you chose can be observed. At the end of the meeting we will provide you with the local responses to the survey we handed out during the workshop. "What Good Teachers Do To Be Effective In the Classroom". This can be used as a guide/reminder when teaching a lesson. Prior to the arrival in the classroom, we would like to have a copy of your lesson plan. What do you use as a guide to go through your lessons. Are you really specific? Objectives listed, anticipatory set, instruction, modeling, check for understanding, guided practice, closure, and independent practice. Or is it real general? We need a copy of your lesson plan. Step 2 - Observation On the day of the observation, the administrator will come in, find a place to sit, and take notes while you teach. At the end of the observation, the administrator will leave and hand you a post-observation set of questions. Step 3 - Post-Observation Meeting This meeting will be around 30 minutes. We will discuss the lesson. We will go over our notes on the domain that you chose or was assigned. We will go over the questions on the post-observation sheet.

I f you have any questions you can let us know. Thanks, Barry and John
