Original Writing: Describe Day and Night at the Fairground

Describe the fairground as you walk in. What can you see, what do you feel (emotions)

Begin a sentence with an adverb to describe how you enter the fairground
- Confidently I strode through the barrier…
- Nervously I looked up at the frightening rides…

Begin a sentence with an adjective to describe what you can see/hear from the fairground
- Bright and garish, the rides towered above me.
- Loud and noisy, the crowd rushed between the rides and stalls

End with a short sentence for impact

Use five senses to describe your surroundings

- Sound
- Smell

Describe the weather & the time of day to set the scene.

A tannoy comes on and this marks the end of the day/night.

or something like
The tannoy screeched out to the workers: ‘The gates will open in ten minutes, please make sure you
are ready for the visitors.’

Describe what happens following this announcement.

Look around the fairground; what has changed? Use similes and metaphors to describe the
differences.

It was as loud as.. It was as quiet as…

You hear something- what is it? Is it your imagination?


Use a semi colon to link two ideas about how you feel:

I heard a bang; my heart leapt.


Something fell to the floor; I started to tremble.
My heart began to pound; the noise grew louder.

How does it end? Use ellipsis … to finish your story
