Seasons Lesson

Spanish to English Grade 6

Overview of Lesson

Students will engage in a review PowerPoint used to refresh their knowledge of English terminology regarding seasons and which seasons people participate in certain activities during. 12-14 year old native Spanish speaking students with a low understanding of English. Understanding the Seasons Students will have a solid understanding of seasonal terminology in English. Students will be able to relate activities to specific seasons in the United States. Students will be able to orally answer questions regarding seasons and terminology surrounding seasons.

Pen Procedures 1. Teacher will lead students in an instructional review session of seasons. Teachers will review the Spanish word that is associated with each picture, along with the English word. (10 minutes) 2. Students will be broken up into two teams to play Jeopardy. 3. Students will answer the questions that appear on the screen, based on which season each picture or month takes place during. 4. Only one student will answer at a time. If the student does not know the answer, he is given 5 seconds to ask his teammates. 5. If the team correctly answers the question, they will receive the points. 6. The scorekeeper records the points. 7. If the team incorrectly answers the question, the other team has a chance to answer the question. If they answer correctly, their team gets the points. 8. The winner is the team with the most points at the conclusion of the lesson. 9. If the 45 minute mark has been reached and the game is not over, the team with the most points wins. The Jeopardy game is the assessment for this lesson.
