It wil bbe local area on base MOC which going to get heat up during welding. Following points Iam quoting from API 510 as solution to this isu. {491510 section 8.1.6.4 says that, in prinple, repair welding must folow the requirements of ASME VIII It means UW-40 and LUCS-56) but opens the door to two overriding PWT alternatives set ut in API 510 section 8.1.64.2. This subsection has been progressively expanded and elaborated over recent code edtons — you can see tis i the out-o-balance subdivisions in the code clauses (1 goes toa concentration-popping seven levels of subhierarchy, e.g. section 8.1.6.42.2.1). ‘The two methods of PWHT replacement (section 8.1.64.2) are Replacement of PWHT by preheat “Replacement of PWHT by controled depesition (CD) welding methods Both work onthe prinple that the stress-releving effects of PWHT can be achieved (albelt imperfectly) by providing the heat required in some other way than placing the repair in a furnace. Replacement of PWHT by preheat : 'As the name suggests, ths simply involves replacing PWHT with preheating the weld joint and then maintaining the temperature during the welding process. The maintained temperature serves to give sufficient grain refinement to reduce the chances of cracking when the welds fished and alowed to cool dwn. While this technique provides sufficent grain refinement ts clearly not as geod as full PWT, soi fs limited to materials of PL(Grade 1,2, 3) and P3(Grade 1, 2) designations. These have a low isk of cracking anyway, owing to ther low carbon content. P2 Grade 2 steels containing ‘manganese and molyadenum are excluded, as they have a higher potential for eracking. Replacement of PWHT by controled deposition (CD) welding methods : ‘This i sometimes known as temper-bead welding and fs described in some detail in API SLO section 8.1.6.4.2.3. The principle is. ‘simple enough — when one layer of weld metal is lid down on top of another the heat from the upper one provides some heat treatment (grain refinement) tothe weld underneath. A multlayer wed which is bult up inthis way will therefore be glven an ‘amount of grain refinement throughout its depth. The top layer ofthe final weld pass wil not have anything above it to provide IRvith heat treatment. ‘The CD technique is considered tobe aIitle better a replacing full PWHT than the preheat ony alternative. Is therefore used for materials where the specication requires impact (notch toughness or Charpy) testing as a condition of their use in pressure ‘equipment. The fact that impact tests were required indicates thatthe material has a tendency towards britleness so the preheat method would nat be good enough. ‘These two PWHT replacement techniques, preheat and CD welding, have become a mainstay of API codes, They are naw ‘mentioned in API 510, 570 and 653 and, we can assume, ae commonly usd in practice, although more commonly in the USA than elsewhere, Even though tis given in API code aso for equipment in service alteration stil you can use above techniques in order to avoid PWHT of that weld. Even Ihave checked in ASME PCC-2 wich is ASME publshed standard for repal of pressure equipment. here aso same above methods are suggested as alternative. Only thing is they mentioned preheat temperature to be selected from ASME Section VIIL-DWv.1 code i we opt for Ist option, Remember here SS (P No.8. going to weld on CS (P. No. 1). And as itis weld zone (CS) which we require to maintain its hardness and properties. So above techniques can be applied here. I suggest preheating wil be better option because it wll be ‘bevel with filet weld which going to join these SS clips with CS base MOC. CD technique wil be more appcable if t would be any butt weld joint. usust 30305559 ~ Uke ura Desa For this case, would lke to remind requirement from SAUDI ARAMCO Spec, which asks to calculate shear stress {or weld joint where support cip is clectly welded on clad steel. I don't remember the exact clause but there i a limiting value of shear stress ft exceeds then u cannot weld suppert clip directly on clad steel thas to be welded on base metal and then clad area to be restored, .usust 31 3t18-08am “Le 3 Sanjay Rathod localized PWHT shall be carried out, usust 3 31 12.265 * Le Veera Mani hi friends.. please advise any relation between impact tested material vs PWHT of the complete vessel. ike + Unfllow Post» Hemant Solanki As per UCS-6S (cf post weld heat treatment i not code requirement and your MOC is P-No is 1 and you carry ‘ut post weld heat treatment a 30 degree F bonus wil be granted to you to reduce minimum permissible impact test Static Equipment Group - Facebook
