Guidelines for Submitting Proof of Financial Support

The U.S. government requires that all international applicants provide proof of ability to pay tuition and living expenses for themselves and their dependents (if applicable) before a formal letter of admission and an I-20 or DS-2019 Certificate of Eligibility can be issued.

All financial documents MUST have: Current date (no earlier than one year before the start of the first term at USC) Students name (or account holders name if sponsor is someone other than student) Sponsorship letter (affidavit of support) stating account holders and students name, current date, relationship between sponsor and student Bank letter with bank stamp and bank officers signature Balance of individual liquid accounts or solvency amount

Types of financial support that are normally accepted: Form 4: Confidential Statement for Financing Studies at USC, accompanied by a recent bank statement or letter. Savings deposit and checking accounts Approved Educational Loans Bank letters or Solvency Certificates from bank Time/fixed/term deposits or government bonds maturing prior to first term at USC or available for withdrawal at any time Employer and Government sponsorships/scholarships Provident funds ONLY IF document states amount available for withdrawal USC scholarships/assistantships this documentation will be submitted by your academic department directly to the Office of Graduate International Admissions

Types of financial support NOT accepted: Investments in fixed assets such as property, Demat accounts, mortgages, jewelry, residences, automobiles, etc. Retirement funds, pensions, life insurance policies Tax Returns Salary/Payroll Statements Pending or Provisional Educational Loans [Chartered] Accountant portfolio

HOW TO SUBMIT FINANCIAL DOCUMENTS:


Documents can be sent as an email attachment in PDF or JPEG format to usci20@usc.edu or faxed to 213-821-3725. Please limit the size of your attachments to 10 MB. Your USC ID number must be clearly written on all documents. It is unnecessary to both fax and email your documents. You will receive a response regarding your documents once they have been processed. 01/11/2011 *Guidelines subject to change
