AIM To know the effect of the VPPBSPT on the level of knowledge and on the duration of the second stage of labor among primigravids at a local government hospital. METHODS This study made use of the pretest- posttest non-equivalent control group design. Participants were derived using a modified purposive sampling method to come up with an experimental and control group composed of ten participants each. Both groups were given a pretest and the experimental group was thereafter exposed to the intervention two weeks prior to their expected date of confinement (EDC). Furthermore, the experimental group return demonstrated three times after exposure to the intervention. The duration of the second stage of labor was measured. The posttest was hen conducted to both groups two days after their delivery. The Wilcoxon Rank-Signed Test was used as a statistical tool to analyze the data collected since the assumption on normality of population and equality of population variances were not met. RESULTS The findings of this study show that there is no significance with the baseline level of knowledge in labor and delivery process among the primigravid mother in relation to the pretest results. However, the intervention has a significant effect in terms of the posttest between the experimental and control group. Lastly, there is no significant difference in duration of the second stage of labor among the control and experimental group. CONCLUSION The intervention supports learning but cannot affect the duration from the time of full dilation to the time of delivery.
