How does a tiny bottle of air freshener fill an entire room? Who would smell it first and why?

EXPLORE The trick: Change the color of a solution without adding anything to it. - There are two chemicals in this trick: Ammonia (household cleaner) and phenolphthalein (turns pink when it comes in contact with ammonia). Write down your observations: What did we do and what happened?

Make a hypothesis (educated guess) as to how this trick works.

EXPLAIN GASES have unique properties because the distance between gas particles is much greater than the particles of a liquid or of a solid. > Gases are FLUIDS and have LOW DENSITY. > Gases are highly COMPRESSIBLE. > Gases COMPLETELY FILL A CONTAINER. > Gas molecules travel at high speeds in all directions and mix quickly with molecules of gases in the air in a process called diffusion. > During diffusion, a substance moves from a region of high concentration to a region of low concentration until the concentration is the same all throughout. ELABORATE 1. Using what you just learned, describe what happened in the trick activity you did at the beginning. Before Picture (Draw gas molecules.) After Picture (Draw gas molecules.)

Now use key terms to explain what happened in the trick activity:
