1. What are the orders of the following quantities: ( ) v w , ( ) v u w, ( ) : ab cd | | v wu , | | | | (
a f b g ? 2. Draw a sketch to illustrate the inequality( ) ( ) = u v w u v w . Are there any special cases for which it becomes an equality? 3. A constant force Facts on a body moving with a velocity v , which is not necessarily collinear with F. Show that the rate at which Fdoes work on the body is ( ) W = F v . 4. Use Fig 1.3-1 to find the viscosity in Pa s of methyl chloride (CH3Cl) at 350 o C and 200 atm. Use the following values for the critical constants: Tc = 143 o C, pc = 66 atm. 5. Compute the viscosity of benzene in mPa s at 200 o C and 1 atm in terms of the Lennard-Jones parameters (Eq. 1.4-14). The experimental viscosity of benzene is 1.17x10 -2 mPa s at 200 o C and 1 atm. Comment on the validity of Eq. 1.4-14 in this problem. 6. Predict the viscosities (in cP) of chlorine-nitrogen mixtures at 75 o C and 1 atm, for the following mole fractions of chlorine: 0.00, 0.75. Use Eqs. 1.4-14 to 16. 7. Estimate the viscosity (in cP) of liquid cyclohexane at 25 o C. 8. Compute the mean molecular velocity u (in cm/s) and the mean free path (in cm) for carbon dioxide at 1 atm and 273.2 K. A reasonable value of d is 3.2 A . What is the ratio of the mean free path to the molecular diameter under these conditions? 9. Problem 1B.1 of the book (pg. 38). 10. Problem 1C.1 of the book (pg. 38).
