Week 3: Day 5 Work Period on Final Assignment Unit: Brave New World (Dystopian Novel Study) Grade Level:

: ENG4U Time Frame: 75 minutes Curricular Expectations: Reading and Literature Studies - Reading for meaning 1.3, 1.5, 1.6, 1.8 - Reading with fluency 3.1, 3.2, 3.3 Writing Developing and Organizing Content 1.1, 1.2, - Applying knowledge and convention 3.2 SWBAT: Students will be collecting resources, and inspiration during this lab period to apply to a reflective essay and art piece. Knowledge and Understanding: Students will be showing an understanding of themes while researching their topic. Application: Students will apply their knowledge to research of their topic. Preparing for Class: Computer lab must be booked.

Materials for Class: Computers, rubrics, assignment outlines (need to be present), essay template

Hook/Introduction: Prior to relocating to the computer lab to start research, students will be asked to briefly write down on entrance cards what their goals are for the day. Including: How many resources and what kinds of resources would you like to have? How much of the essay template would you like to have completed? Teacher: 1. Must inform students that their essay templates will be handed in at the end of the period. (This is to make sure students are staying on task) 2. Must circulate through the class during lab period to make sure students are staying on task and is available for questions. Bridge: This lesson will bridge into the next work period which will allow students to work further on their final assignments.
