PROPOSAL FOR CONVERSATIONAL ENGLISH CLUB

Timing Venue

: Once a week after school hours : Reading Room

Number of people involved: 2 volunteers, no. of students undetermined (Alternative weeks for forms: Week 1-Form 1,2,3 Week 2 4,5 etc.)

From the month of March, the English Volunteers of MRSM Merbok hope to start Conversational English Club. Through the use of English media and conversation the students will get a firmer grasp on the language, culture, celebrations and colloquialisms in Britain. We hope this could increase their motivation in improving as well as enhance their self-confidence and interest in the language itself. We hope that students of mixed abilities get involved. As this is not a lesson and something the students should find fun and easy the less able students should improve with the help of their peers. The volunteers hope the EMC could help in conducting and steering younger/less able students in the right direction. This is the perfect opportunity for the students that want to study abroad to get the knowledge they will need, as well as the confidence to move into a new culture. From observing the students the last couple of months we have noticed that it is not the language which is the students downfall but the pronunciation and accent. This is where the club is different to normal English lessons as native speakers in an informal setting it offers the students a different opportunity and learning curve. The club consists of conversation, reading aloud, listening to music that focuses on accent, and films from Britain. There is little we need except: 1. T.V/Speakers 2. Occasionally we will need special items for celebrations. This will be discussed with Aimi in advance. Thank you and your immediate reply is highly appreciated. Proposal prepared by, .
