1.BIBLIOGRAPHY Singer, Marilyn. MIRROR MIRROR. By Josee Masse. New York: Dutton Childrens Books, 2010.

ISBN 978052547901 2. PLOT SUMMARY This reverse picture book places a new spin on fairy tales from Cinderella to Beauty and the Beast. Each tale provides two different points of view. In the Hood reveals the voices from the fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood. One poem is from Reds point of view as she says, In my hoodcarrying a basket, picking berries to eatjuicy and sweet what a treat! On the opposite side of the page the wolf describes Red, What a treatjuicy and sweet, picking berries to eat, carrying a basketin my hood. These crafty poems use the exact same words from top to bottom in reverse only changing slightly in punctuation and capitalization to create different meanings. 3. CRITICAL ANAYLIS Just as the author creates two different points of view in reverse, the illustrator splits the page to create two different richly colored illustrations. The words reverse to form new meanings as the graphics create visuals in two complimentary layouts. In The Three Bears variation Bears in the News two newspaper headlines read, Asleep In Cubs Bed, Blonde Startled by Bears versus Bears Startled by Blonde Asleep in Cubs Bed. Beautifully detailed pictures accent the rhythms of these fairy tales. Children will be amazed with the differences in meanings that emerge with just a few strokes of the pen and paint brush. 4. REVIEW EXCERPT(S) Booklist Editors' Choice: Books for Youth, 2010 Notable Children's Books: 2011 Kirkus Review (starred) Masses gorgeous, stylized illustrations enhance the themes of duality and perspective by presenting images and landscapes that morph in delightful ways from one side of the page to the other. A mesmerizing and seamless celebration of language, imagery and perspective. Booklist Review (starred) Matching the cleverness of the text, Masses deep-hued paintings create split images that reflect the twisted meaning of the irreverently witty poems and brilliantly employ artistic elements of form and shapeCinderellas clock on one side morphs to the moon on the other. A must-purchase that will have readers marveling over a visual and verbal feast. 5. CONNECTIONS Gather other Marilyn Singer books to read such as: TALLULAHS SOLO. ISBN 9780547330044 FOLLOW FOLLOW.
