2013 Healthy Kids Colorado Survey Eagle County High Schools Initial Outcomes Assessment (Eagle County High

Schools Aggregate Data)


1,743 students from five schools participated in the survey in 2013, compared with 1,316 students from five schools in 2011.
Substance Use and Abuse ALCOHOL- In general, less high school students are consuming alcohol, less high school students are binge drinking, and students are waiting until they are older to try alcohol for the first time now than in years prior. 20% of students reported to binge drinking in the past 30 days in 2013, compared with 28% in 2013 and 32% in 2009. o (defined as 5 or more drinks of alcohol in a row, that is, within a couple of hours) 66% of students have had 0 drinks in the past 30 days in 2013, compared with 57% in 2011. 41% of local high school students were 14 years old or younger at the time of their first drink in 2013, compared with 49.9% in 2011 and 54% in 2009.

MARIJUANA 37% of local high school students have tried marijuana in 2013, compared with 39.1% in 2011 and 39% use in 2009. 18% of local high school students have used marijuana in the past 30 days in 2013, compared with 22.5% in 2011. 53% of local high school students think it would be easy (easy or very easy) to get some marijuana if they wanted to in 2013, compared to 55% in 2011 and 58% in 2009. Of local high school students who have used marijuana in the past 30 days, 15% got it from someone with a medical marijuana card in 2013, compared to 12% in 2011. 36% of high school students know someone with a medical marijuana card in 2013, compared with 35% in 2011. 70% of local 12th grade students saw no risk or a slight risk in harming themselves by trying marijuana in 2013, compared to 71% in 2011. 59% of local 12th grade students saw no risk or a slight risk in harming themselves by trying marijuana in 2013, compared to 55% in 2011.
