The peace treaty signed at the Paris Peace Conference (1919) by Germany and the Allied powers after World War I

Why did the US reject the Treaty of Versailles and the League of Nations?
Americans believed that their best hope for peace was to not get involved in European affairs

After WWI the US was considered the strongest military in the world. Their absence greatly weakened the strength of the League

Why did many countries feel bitter and cheated as a result of the Treaty?
Germany: The Treaty, especially the war guilt, created bitterness and hatred in the hearts of most Germans

Italy and Japan: Both joined the Allies in the hopes of gaining new territories, and both gained much less than what they had hoped for.
