Philosophy of Education

It is an important concept in education to have a belief that all of your students have the ability to learn. Therefore this shows that there must be effective teachers to stimulate the minds of the children who want to learn. It is the teachers job to find and figure out the most effective learning style of each of the children inside of the classroom. My philosophy in education will be to create a room that is comfortable for all children which will be a safe learning environment. In order to create this, the teacher must realize that all the students may have different learning methods, and the teacher must realize that all of his students come from different families, and even different cultures. As learned from Howard Gardner, and his theory of multiple intelligences defines that there are eight different intelligences that are commonly recognized in school settings. These include logistics, linguistics, kinesthetic, musical, spatial, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and naturalist. These eight different methods are critical to seeing that all children have different ways that learning works for them. To be an effective teacher they must find which method will work for each child which may seem impossible, but may not be as hard as it sounds. Another key concept to remember in teaching is remembering that all of the students are not the same. Each student is different and each student should be treated uniquely. As James Banks believes that to achieve greater understanding and positive attitudes towards different groups, the curriculum should be more inclusive and action oriented. Banks created four different approaches to multicultural education. The contribution approach, additive approach, transformation approach, and the social action approach. Each of these approaches helps all students develop positive attitudes towards different races, cultures and different religious groups. I firmly believe that all students possess the ability to learn. It is up to the teachers, supporting staff, and families to figure out how to best teach each child. I believe the way to achieve this is to create a classroom environment that is comfortable and safe for each of the

students. My goal in teaching is to create productive members of society by giving these students the tools they need in order to be successful. It is important to see that all children have the capacity to learn, however not all teachers can teach.
