At Smith Elementary our mission is to provide our students with the education necessary to develop into responsible contributing members of society through the cooperative efforts of staff, parents, students, and community.
Education Programs
Gifted & Talented Program
Students who participate in services designed for gifted students will demonstrate skills in self-directed learning, thinking, research, and communication as evidenced by the development of innovative products and performances that are advanced in relation to students of similar age, experience, or environment and reflect individuality and creativity.
Guided Reading
Guided reading is a strategy that helps students become good readers. The teacher provides support for small groups of readers as they learn to use various reading strategies.
Bilingual/ESL Program
The goal of 6 year bilingual program(PK-5) is to promote high levels of academic achievement and full academic language proficiency in the students first language and English. The ESL program serves students who have been identified as students of limited English proficiency. The program is instructed in English and employs an ESL certified teacher. The teacher will provide instruction and instructional support to English language learners.

Special Education
There are three programs on our campus that help students that are under the special education program. Starting with coteach and in class support. Students are able to be in the classroom with the support of a general education teacher and a special education teacher. The Structured Learning program is designed for students that are on the Spectrum of Autism. The SILC Program is designed for students that are on the Spectrum as well, but are in the general education for the majority of the day, provided with in class support and small group instruction.
