EE-529 POWER CONVERTER DESIGN

Learning Objectives 1. To design specify and apply power semiconductor converters which includes single phase and three phase Un-Controlled Rectifiers Controlled Rectifiers, DC-DC converters and AC Inverters. 2. Practical considerations involving the design of gate drive circuits for different converter topologies and design of snubber circuits. 3. Specific analysis on how these converters interact with the electric utility grid and load for various applications. 4. Practical Converter Design Considerations including design of Controllers, power inductors, high switching transformers, capacitor selection and layout for minimizing stray inductance. 5. Application of different power converter topologies to different industrial applications. 6. Concerns and remedies for power harmonics, current injection, distortion of utility waveforms.
