Teacher: Ms.

McRae Date: 3/5/14 Classes: Blocks 2-4 Substitute Lesson Plan Note: I do not allow my students to use their cell phones in class, so they should not have them out in class. They should also only use their laptops when instructed to prevent them from getting distracted. Also, they have their own bathroom passes and should not use one from the homework table this is very important because if they turn them in at the end of the grading period, they receive extra credit for them. English I Honors Block 2 & 4 (Teacher Assistant = Kara Adcock): 1. Bell-work (about 10 minutes): Instruct the students to write sentences that demonstrate how to use two, to, and too. They should provide an example of each to two times (so basically have them write this in as many sentences as it takes). If they need to, they can refer to their DOL 1-8 rule sheet online, but they probably do not need to use it. Instruct the students to write these on paper. Have students turn them in to the Grade folder when they are finished. Essay (about 40 minutes): They will need their laptops for this. Instruct students to have one other student who is not in his or her group to read the WHOLE GROUPS paper (online) and write a list of constructive criticism. In other words, each student should write a list on paper (the students are not to change ANY OF THE TYPING in another groups paper) of all the ways the entire paper could be improved (and he or she may also include the positives as well). Let the students know that they will turn these in and meaningless / vague comments such as good or bad will not be acceptable. When a set of partners is finished reading each others paper, they should swap back and review the feedback. Allow the students time to finish revising the drafts at this point. Students do not need to talk for this assignment except for a whisper at most if they have questions about a comment another student has made. Article of the Week (about 15-20 minutes): Students are familiar with this assignment. They need to direct themselves to the Article of the Week Link on my Moodle page and read A Divided Ukraine. You can have them read aloud (with volunteers or the popcorn method) or you could read it aloud to them if you like). Doing so will ensure that they all do in fact read it and stay at nearly the same pace. Afterwards, they should answer the eight Article of the Week questions in their GoogleDrive. Reading (remainder of class finish for homework): Have students read The Scarlet Ibis (textbook pa ge 462) and answer the questions 1-9 (on page 467). Let the students know that the reading and the questions are in their GoogleDrive folder titled Class Documents, so they do not need their textbook. Instruct them to finish the questions for homework.
