Larrys Middle/High School Classroom Management Plan

1) Key Points of Discipline Plan My discipline plan is a mixture between The Pioneers of Modern Discipline William Glasser Choice Theory. And my own version of Skinners rewards system. I want to be a leader to my students, so I will set a good example for them and will address misbehavior when it occurs in my classroom. At the beginning of the school year we will collectively come up with class rules. I will use reasonable consequences for students misbehavior. I will not just ignore them and reward others like Skinners theory says to do. So that is why it is a mixture of both theories. 2) Plan for the Establishment of Classroom Expectations As I stated earlier I plan to implement the Choice Theory. I will set a good example for my students and will address misbehavior immediately when it occurs in my classroom. At the beginning of the school year as a class we will distinguish our rules. When we do this it will clearly identify our class expectations so students will know how they are supposed to behave.

3) Consequences of Misbehavior Consequences will be addressed by the severity of each misbehavior and the misbehaviors will mostly always be addressed right when they occur. A method for student conflict resolution is the bystander resolution, which is the student with a problem can seek a bystander who will help mediate them through the problem. There will also be a problem box where students can write down the problem and I will look at them. Students will know that they can always come to me with concerns at any point in time. 4) Plan for Recognition or Celebration of Good We will have a large mountain poster called Mt Everest. Each class will have a mountain climber; when a class has no misbehavior during a class period they will move their mountain climber a certain amount of feet up the mountain. Once the class reaches the top of the mountain they will get to choose the activity for the next class period. This method should help the class as a whole come together and behave well.

5) Plan for Involvement of Parents- Involvement of parents will be easy and fun for all. I will have a website created that will have all my units and lessons mapped out as well as background information on myself. I will also create a Facebook and Twitter page that will have updates of school and community physical education related events. Communication with parents will be by phone, email, and face to face. I will have an open door policy. 6) Procedural Rules or Protocols for Monitoring attendance- entering/exiting the gymnasium- students will report to assigned spots before and after class. Students will be dismissed to change and to leave class by me. Attendance will be taken by me while students are at their spots. I will have a map of the students name corresponding with the spot they are assigned. Equipment use and care- Each lesson plan will have specific equipment needs, but before each lesson I will get proper equipment out and set it up. I will also have students

help me with setting up and cleaning up when appropriate. Broken equipment will be assessed by me and written down and reported to the principal or financial consultant at the end of each quarter. Starting/Stopping activity- I like to use the whistle to cue the students to stop doing whatever they are doing, place equipment on ground, and look and listen for instructions. If I dont have a whistle I will use the FREEZE method or the clap method. Students will need to ask for permission to use bathroom/ get drinks. Safety/Accidents/Injury- I really like the color code safety system. Mine would be something like this. Red- Injury (sit down on baseline opposite of injured student), yellow - Fire (follow proper exiting procedures), and Brown- bodily fluids (report to sideline opposite of fluids). Whistle will cue students to listen for further instruction.

7) Behavior RulesMy Classroom Rules 1. When a teacher or student is presenting or TALKING, we LISTEN. 2. We show good SPORTSMANSHIP and ENCOURAGEMENT to everyone. 3. We RESPECT everyones space, feelings, and belongings. 4. We take CARE of OUR equipment. 5. We ALWAYS try our BEST and LEARN High School Modifications: #4 is the only category in which I feel necessary to make a High School modification to. I would most likely eliminate the mountain system for juniors and seniors because they shouldnt need an incentive program in order to behave well. I still believe it will be beneficial to create the classrooms rules as a class. By doing this the student will know and understand my expectations for them. I will also address all misbehavior when it happens at the High School level. I will be sterner and expect more from my High School students because they are older and more responsible. My parent involvement, protocols, and rules will all be the same.
