Isabel Izquierdo 2/28/2014 Period 1 Romeo and Juliet Essay Your Fate Will Never Change Fate will

always take its course, no matter how good or how bad it is. Fate is something you cannot change, it is just there to determine hmm, yes or no. In Romeo and Juliet, fate played a big role. It was fate Romeo went to that party and met Juliet, it was fate Romeo did not receive the letter; it was fate that Romeo poisoned himself and died. The theme of Romeo and Juliet is people cannot change their fate. Starting off, Romeo met Juliet at a party that he was not supposed to go to because he is a Montague. Rom- . More not, while my prayers effect I take. /Thus from my lips by thine my sin purged. [kiss] Jul- Then have my lips the sin that thee have took.(21). It was fate that Romeo and Juliet met at the party. In this quote, they are elaborating on how they are falling in love and kiss because their love for each other is so strong. Although Romeo is a Montague and Juliet, a Capulet they fall madly in love and do not care about their names. This quote and scene is an example of dramatic irony. Who would think that Romeo would go to a Capulet party let alone fall in love with Juliet, Lord and Lady Capulets daughter? Certainly not me. Secondly, Romeo never receives message from Friar John, due to being quarantined. Fri. L- Who bare my letter to Romeo? Fri. J- I could not send it, -here it is again, -/ Nor get a messenger to bring it thee, / So fearful were they of infection.(83). Fate can be good or bad, in this case it was not so great. In this quote, Friar Laurence is getting frazzled because Friar John was not able to get the letter to Romeo. Friar John attempted to, but he was held back and

quarenated for fear he could bring a sickness to other places and where he was traveling. This is an example of man versus greater force, which is external conflict. This is a conflict because Friar John had no control over what was going to happen. He was quarenated and he had no control over to help get the letter to Romeo. Lastly, Romeo kills himself moments before Juliet awakes from her death or sleep. Rom- Heres to my love. [Drinks.] O true apothecary! / Thy drugs are quick. Thus with a kiss I die.(87).Was it fate or impulsiveness that led to Romeos suicide? A little of both, but overall fate led the way. In the end, Romeo drinks the poison moments before Juliet awakes. These elements represents Romeos character, dynamic and round. An example showing Romeo is a dynamic and round character is how fast he can fall in love with one beauty, Rosaline, to falling in love with Juliet at that fateful party. Romeos character is very out-there in a way meaning you do not really know his emotion, is he sad, excited, or simply happy. The theme of Romeo and Juliet is people cannot change their fate. In the end, it was fate that took it all in Romeo and Juliet. Fate caused many things to happen like Romeo meeting Juliet, Romeo not getting the letter, and Romeo dying. You cannot change your fate no matter how hard you try it just will not work. Things happen for a reason, whether it is a break-up, fight, or death, you can always find a way to make it positive.
