MARCH 2014 newsletter

We hope that you all have a wonderful March break and enjoy spending time with your family and friends. Here are some events that are happening when we come back in after March Break.

Whats happening in the curriculum this month?


Language Arts: Students will prepare and give a speech using the success criteria of public speaking (eye contact gestures humour clear and strong voice etc.!. "lease see the #ubric posted on the $lass Website. %rade & students will prepare and give a speech in 'rench on how to do something (procedural writing!. (o improve students) conversation skills in 'rench they have been e*posed to the future the imperative and the imperfect tenses (avoir + ,tre!. Students are also learning to recogni-e the most common words used in 'rench language as well as they enrich their vocabulary during ../.0.#. time recording unfamiliar words in their agendas. (o improve their writing skills they communicate in writing with their peers in /dmodo and correct each other for mistakes in grammar spelling punctuation and conventions of style. Math: (his month we will be working on Multiplication and .ivision facts. %rade & students will multiply to 1*1 and divide to 2341 using a variety of mental strategies. %rade 2 students will multiply to 3*3 and divide to 5643 using a variety of mental strategies (e.g. doubles doubles plus another set skip counting!.

Science: %rade 2 students will investigate the characteristics and properties of light. (hey will demonstrate an understanding of light and sound as forms of energy that have specific characteristics and properties.

0lso they will investigate the interdependence of plants and animals within specific habitats and communities. (hey are also going to analyse the effects of human activities on habitats and communities. %rade & students will assess the impact of various forces on society and the environment investigating devices that use forces to create movement. 7n addition they will learn how plants are important to humans and other living things and the need for humans to protect habitats. Social Studies: %rade 2 students will identify $anada)s political and physical regions their main characteristics and some significant activities that take place in them. (hey will analyse some of the general ways in which the natural environment of regions in $anada has affected the development of industry. %rade & students will use the social studies in8uiry process to investigate some of the environmental effects of land and resource use in two or more 9ntario municipal regions. Wizard of Oz :(he Wi-ard of 9- that we are producing is now well under way; We have many of our students signed up for our after school .rama club on Wednesdays from &<= p. m to learn the magic of live theatre; We always welcome others to join us. "lease ensure homework is carefully completed and signed each week. "lease encourage your child to set a plan when given out their homework and to Be "roactive. Important School Events:
