COMMENTARY: SURF CLUB (HIGH EXCELLENCE)
This project exemplifes a high Excellence submission. Its strength is in the demonstration of a very advanced and mature grasp
of conceptual design.
An extensive array of design models from a range of different design felds are used as infuences on the students own ideation.
The extensive evaluative notes supporting the research are not necessarily required to provide the key evidence for the standard,
but shows a mature and articulate understanding of these designers and their work. The student takes these various research
ideas as multiple starting points and begins to weave their different threads in a way not often seen often at this level: including
showing the effective extrapolation of architectural ideas from fashion and furniture design.
The result is a collection of initial ideas that are multi-faceted and certainly sophisticated in terms of the amalgamation of different
themes combining in ways that are distinctive giving a clear sense the student is aware of their own developing aesthetic. Ideas
are transformed and enhanced in a manner that shows a highly profcient designer in action.
